LFW DAY 2 - OOTD

DRESS: ZARA
MAC COAT: H&M
HEELS: H&M
HAT & NECKLACE: PRIMARK
BAG: ZARA - SIMILAR

It felt like every everyone was towering over me on Day 1 (I'm 5'5) so I decided to wear heels for Day 2 of LFW, but wearing heels means walking slower which in turn meant rushing, almost sweating all the way to my first show of the day, Bernard Chandran, because I thought I was going to be late. I admit it, I have punctuality problems, I'm working on it. Lol, thankfully fashion shows have punctuality problems too....

A lot of people kept saying to me "nice skirt!" but it is in fact joined to the top half of my dress. Very deceiving of Zara! I love the lace insert but the floral front half of my dress kept drifting apart and exposing my chest but its all for faaaasshhuuuun. eh?! My collar necklace is from primark remember here? And to top off my outfit I wore my cream Mac coat from H&M to help lift the colour palette of my outfit.

Another LFW week post done phew! I'm telling you I underestimated how much content there is to put out after LFW is finished! But I hope your still enjoying my posts!

LFW DAY 1: JAMIE WEI HUANG, ONES TO WATCH AND HEMA KAUL

As well as soaking up the creative vibes around Somerset house I also attended a few off schedule shows at the Freemasons Hall, Covent Garden, thanks to tickets from POP PR. Continue reading for all the low down on day 1 LFW shows including beautiful pictures and video footage of these designers collections....

JAMIE WEI HUANG

There were oversized fluffy knits, bomber jackets and baggy shorts mixed with button up shirts, tailored trousers and floaty skirts. The Jamie Wei Huang SS15 collection was a fusion of sports luxe and boyish tailored pieces, entitled "Metaphysics", a collection inspired by the basic idea of human existence within urban society. The show opened up with vibrant pastel coloured two pieces using textured jacquards, followed by electric blues and emerald greens adorned with leather buckles, satchels and chunky heels that helped balance out the boyish elements of this collection. The unusual blend of different fabrics gave the collection a tailored and fancy finish but still manage to make it look casual and comfy to wear.

ONES TO WATCH
Ones To Watch was directly after the Jamie Wei Huang show so there was no time to mingle, I had to get back out there and queue up for entry to the show! Ones to Watch is a showcase of emerging fashion designers and a fantastic platform that raises these designers profile.
Check out the talented 4 designers that were chosen for this years collaborative showcase:

CASSANDRA VERITY GREEN

Channelling a very futuristic vibe (think fifth element) this designer presented a very colourful and playful collection. Cut out swimwear, woven knitwear, fluffy shoes, bubble backpacks, transparent pieces and exaggerated fluffy coverups. All topped off with brightly coloured wigs that complemented the vibrant colour palette of the garments.

KEIKO NISHIYAMA

Japanese born Keiko Nishiyama showed intricate hand drawn prints in her collection. It reminded me of fantasy and fairytale elements. The detail of the clashing prints are bold and yet displayed on floaty shirt dresses, feminine knee length dress and softly structured two pieces. Definite statement garments.

MIN WU

Another futuristic collection but this time Min Wu was was all about ombre colours, puff shoulders and PVC shirts. Min Wu designed her collection with the bold modern woman in mind, exploring the combination of functional materials. The addition of pinstripes break up the cotton candy palette and I particularly love the dip-dyed pinstripe trousers (bottom left).

YOUJA JIN

Although Youjia Jin specialises in womenswear, she has been awarded a top 10 menswear designer award in China. Her collection for Ones to watch featured androgynous suits with a feminie edge and was my favourite collection out of the showcase. If you remember in one of my previous posts here, I shared how much I am loving the influence of menswear designs in womenswear clothing.
This collection featured three main colours white, grey and black were "office wear" was given a revamp. Pleated blazers, intertwined knitwear and draping make her simple designs unique. I could definitely see myself wearing many of the pieces especially the blazer pleated all in one (bottom left) and will definitely be looking out for more of her work.

HEMA KAUL

Hema Kaul was the last show I attended for the day. This is Hema's third season presenting at LFW and it did not disappoint. Hema's designs featured nipped in waists and full skirts as well as figure hugging pieces to complement the female form, beautifully embellished with 3D flowers, sequins and diamantes. Every girly girls dream, watch the full catwalk here

LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S15 DAY 1

SUIT: MANGO
HIGH NECK TOP: THE STING
BAG: PRIMARK

ITS LONDON FASHION WEEK! I am so excited to be attending again this year thanks to POP PR who sent me invites to all the shows their representing! This is my second time attending LFW, you catch up with what I got up to last time hereDay 1 was mental!

On my way into the Jamie Wei Huang show I was interviewed and snapped by Fashion Scout and then shortly after that I attended the Ones To Watch showcase at the Freemasons' Hall. I had some free time before my next shows so I headed over to Somerset House to spot some street style and met up with some of my favourite instagrammer's and fashion bloggers before heading to the ME Hotel to chill out and enjoying some complimentary snacks at the Radio Rooftop Bar, it was absolutely gorgeous up there!

After scoffing down some much needed sweets and snacks I caught the Tahani Alothai collection at the Savoy Hotel and then ended my day back at the Freemasons Hall to see the Hema Kaul catwalk.

On to my outfit...Recently I have really been into menswear, I particularly enjoyed the designs showcased at the London Collection: Men this year and I am loving ladies in menswear such as stylist Ayishat Akanbi , musician Janelle Monae and fashion bloggers Basik Attire, Natasha Janelle and Angelica Blick I guess my ootd was influenced by these elements. The sun bizarrely decided to come out so there were times I got a little hot under the collar, literally lol, but I really enjoyed wearing all black everything. I was absolutely shattered by the time I got home but bring on Day 2!

Street style snaps on the way...

THE BOOK CLUB: #GIRLBOSS & IS EVERYONE HANGING OUT WITHOUT ME?

I know Easter seems so long ago but during that time I gave up TV shows for Lent. That may sound silly but at the time a considerable amount of my days were being spent watching what I can only describe as epic dramas. Game of Thrones, Scandal, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, The Vampire Diaries, Scandal...yes I said Scandal twice that show is too live!...the list is extensive and while I really enjoy watching them all I was very consciously aware of how much time I was spending attached to my laptop and how other activities I enjoy, I rarely was doing, one of the being reading. So since then I have been getting back into the swing of things and I thought I would share with you what I've had my nose buried in this summer!

"The book that will have you laughing with every page"

I am a Mindy Kaling fan.
First of all the award for longest book title goes to Miss Kaling, hands down, but in all seriousness if you're a fan of the writer behind "The Mindy Project" then you will be able to follow the witty quips and digressions of this book, her writing style is much like her comedy performances. But if you've never heard of her before that is not a problem because Mindy comedically walks us through her life from adolescence to adulthood covering her relationships, career progression, successes, failures and random thoughts through mini essays on each topic.

I don't want to spoil anything but I found this to be so relatable and honest, one point in-particular is when she shares how she scored her biggest break, being a writer for the US version of "The Office" thanks to the help of big time writer and producer Greg Daniels but almost lost her position for being too aggressive with her ideas. She shows how being confident in your abilities is great but don't forget a little humility goes a long way. There are even pictures of her getting zits before her interviews something every girl/guy can relate to! This book gave me some genuine laughs from funny anecdotes and left me able to still respect all of her hard work.

My only complaint is that I would have loved for some of the chapters to be expanded on in more detail but rumour has it she is currently working on releasing a follow up book so I may just get my wish!

Just because I love her so much I'm going to give "The Office" another go. I really hate when US versions of UK comedies are made and vice versa, I think the humour is lost between the remakes, but I've heard her performance as Kelly Kapoor is a must see!

In the introduction, she says she'd like to be friends with Beyonce. But after reading Mindy's book I think I'd like to be friends with her!

"The book that will inspire you that no dream is too big, if you want it work for it"

I read this book within the first 2 days of my holiday. You won't want to put this down, the hype around this book is warranted. A true rags (she was once a thief and ate a bagel from dumpster)  to riches tale. Sophia is badass.

#Girlboss is a autobiography on her early life before her Nasty Gal success filled with loads of career tips, encouraging quotes and testimonials from other "#girlbosses" who have also made it successful in the careers. I particularly enjoyed the throwback posts relating to her process of building Nasty Gal she basically did everything from the styling, buying, photography, marketing. She wore all the hats of her business and made sure she did them well until she was in position to hire people to do it for her.

The more you read the book the more you realise how much the current success of Nasty Gal was never a thought fathomed by Sophia, she never expected to have a net worth of $250 millon her focus was on chasing her happiness. She realised through all the crappy jobs she had had, the one she loved, enjoyed and came naturally to her was the fashion business she had set up and she decided to pursue it.

If you've ever felt lost in on your life path, not sure of how to figure out what you should be doing or scared about making a career change you will benefit from this book! There is something for everyone, girl or boy, and even if going into the fashion industry is not what you want the underlying message is "Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can" be consistent and if its something you really want you have to really work hard and it will grab the attention of others.

The minute I put it down I had all these ideas to set up an eBay shop and had added a bunch of things on my to-do-list!
In other words, you will be positively influenced by this book to get up and make things happen!

I've not wrote a book review since I took Literature in secondary school! So let me know what you thought of it, whats on your reading list!
