I am having a MAJOR skincare moment right now and Skincare By Hyram is in large part to thank for my revived interest. During lockdown his YouTube quickly caught my attention and it didnt take long for me to ready myself with paper and pen, eagerly taking notes, while binge watching his videos. When you have some time you should absolutely check out his content, I can completely vouch its time well spent. Thanks to Hyram I've learned alot more about korean skincare, the pros/cons of specific brands and products, the importance of SPF and so much more, which led to me including four new steps to my morning skincare routine...
STEP ONE: INCREASE SKIN MOISTURE 💦
I had never heard of The Inkey List until I watched "The Ordinary Vs The Inkey List: Which Is Best?" - unlike Hyram I have tried The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and although I enjoyed the experience of using it, the product didn't "wow" me. In fact, I found it quite the opposite of hydrating, it felt tacky on my fingers and immediately dried out before I could spread it evenly over my face. But intrigued by how highly everyone speaks about The Inkey List I decided to give hyaluronic acid another go and I have to say I much prefer The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum to The Ordinary. It only takes 2-3 drops, to gently pat this product into my skin after cleansing, while my face is still damp, to lock in moisture.
STEP TWO: ENCOURAGE NEW COLLAGEN GROWTH 🌱
Real talk why didnt I know about the benefits of Vitamin C sooner? It is literally an skin elixir and though this product is primarily supposed to be applied in the morning, I absolutely love using it before bed, as oppose to using retinol which my skin has yet to tolerate. The Super Facialist Vitamin C Glow Boost Skin Serum smells citrusy fresh which is so refreshing but this also means it contains fragrance which can sometimes be an irritant to skin. However if I know that I've stayed up way past my bedtime I'm 100% reaching for this serum. Its an overnight success and I can testify to having seen an improvement in my skin especially when it comes to hyperpigmentation, fine lines on my forehead and darkness under my eyes.
STEP THREE: TLC FOR THE SKIN UNDER YOUR 👀
The Simple Brightening Eye Gel has a cooling sensation under my eyes, plumping the skin. I like the light texture of the gel and it contains niacinamide which helps skin stay firm and makes retinol easier to use, so on some nights I like to mix it with 1-2 drops of The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalene and during the day it provides the perfect base for my concealer. Its formulation being lightweight is important to me as I've noticed other eye creams in the past have caused me to develop millia and so far so good - a solid simple eye cream. I've linked an alternative from Cerave as I've also heard great things about this brand and its on my own "to-buy" list once I've finished this.
STEP FOUR: PROTECT AGAINST HARMFUL UVA/UVB RAYS ☀️
Now there's no point doing all the steps above to then just skip sun protection, so having a hydrating moisturiser that also contains SPF is *chefs kiss*. The Hello Sunday The Everyday One Face Moisturise Suncreen SPF 30 was gifted to me earlier this year and I truly have not stopped using it. This product deserves a 🌟 - its so smooth and glowy on my skin, absorbs so easily (no pilling) and doesnt leave a white cast and protects my skin against blue light which is perfect because I spend 9-5 and 6-10 in front of a screen.. I've also never had any problems applying makeup ontop, in fact it really is the perfect primer - I told you...chefs kiss!
